On Friday, September 17, our school had the pleasure of hosting four NATO pilots from the United States. They are based in San Antonio, Texas, and are pilots for one of the biggest military aircraft, the C-5 Galaxy cargo plane. They arrived in the Czech Republic on Tuesday for the NATO Days air show in Ostrava this weekend, and they were gracious enough to meet with our students in 4B and 4C and to talk about their experiences in aviation and being a military pilot. We learned a lot about the C5 plane: there are 4 pilots, 2 flight engineers and 1 loadmaster for each mission. There are 2 bedrooms on the plane and kitchen which has fridge and an oven. The pilots also explained how they became pilots and the differences between being a civilian pilot and an aircraft pilot. The students were eager to listen and asked a lot of really good questions, which the pilots were more than happy to answer.
After the meeting, the pilots were given a short tour of Krnov. Adela Kolková and Lucie Lačňáková from 3.A lead the tour and talked about the most famous sights in Krnov: the town hall, the Castle, the Swedish Wall, St. Martin’s Church and the Concert Hall of the Holy Ghost. The pilots especially liked the colored buildings and architecture and one said that the colors reminded him of Sweden.
After the tour, the pilots came back to our school for lunch, which was a traditional Řizek and potatoes, which the pilots said was delicious! After lunch, some of the students were brave enough to ask the pilots for a picture, and they were happy to do so.
The day was a success: the students were fantastic and interacted with pilots and the pilots enjoyed themselves. They said many times that it was the best day of their trip to the Czech Republic so far because they got to meet with Czech students and to talk about their passion.
V pátek 17. září jsme měli tu čest přivítat ve škole čtyři americké piloty NATO, kteří mají vojenskou základnu v San Antoniu v Texasu. Pilotují jedno z největších vojenských letadel C-5 Galaxy a do České republiky přiletěli na Dny NATO v Ostravě.
Studenti 4. B a 4. C dopravního oboru měli skvělou příležitost poslechnout si zkušenosti armádních pilotů, zjistit rozdíl mezi civilním a vojenským letectvím, klást otázky, které hosté zodpovídali s obrovským nadšením. Dozvěděli se také, jak funguje stroj C-5: je řízen čtyřmi piloty, servisován dvěma leteckými techniky a posádka je doplněna zásobovačem. Uvnitř se nacházejí dvě obytné místnosti a také kuchyň s lednicí a sporákem. Na závěr besedy někteří studenti sebrali odvahu a požádali piloty o společnou fotografii.
Po setkání se studenty naši hosté navštívili centrum města, kde obdivovali krnovskou architekturu a především barevnost domů, která jim připomínala Švédsko. Studentky 3.A, Adéla Kolková a Lucie Lačňáková, je krátce provedly po nejvýznamnějších památkách města. Upoutala je krnovská radnice, Švédská zeď, kostel sv. Martina či koncertní síň sv. Ducha.
Piloti zhodnotili celý den jako to nejlepší z jejich dosavadního pobytu v Česku, ocenili zájem studentů a dle vlastních slov si návštěvu v naší škole užívali.
